This will be a great opportunity to learn the ancient music of piobaireachd and the art of bagpipe sound from two of the worlds greatest players. Murray Henderson is the legendary piper from New Zealand who lives in Scotland and is considered to be one of the all time great players and musicians. He has won all of the worlds major solo prizes on several occasions and will be sharing his knowledge and experience on piobaireachd and bagpipe sound. His work as a reed and bagpipe maker is known around the world and will be featured in the classroom. Ian Whitelaw is the winner of the 2006 United States Gold Medal for Piobaireachd and a former world pipe band champion with Simon Fraser University Pipe Band. He is also a world class soloist and musician and both Ian and Murrays teaching will bring the students to new heights with great sound and superb arrangements of the great tunes. There will be recitals in the week and a BIG CONCERT July 15th where you will be able to listen to Murray, Ian (and some special guests) perform! Material covered in the classroom will be: 1. Gold and Silver Medal tunes for 2006 and 2007 2. Fine MSR playing and competing 3. History and discussion on canntaireachd and composers. 4. In depth bagpipe sound development 5. Reed and bagpipe making discussions.
